The premiere of G. Bizet's opera "Carmen" took place as part of the I Sochi Festival of Classical Music in 2022.
The innovation of this version of one of the most popular operas in the world lies in the use of cutting-edge stage solutions that allow the audience to see actions that are unseen and invisible from the auditorium. Thanks to the work of video operators who are on stage throughout the performance and incorporated into it as characters, viewers have the opportunity to see the artists, their facial expressions, nuances of emotions up close on multimedia screens placed on the sides of the stage, receiving a live broadcast recording.
According to the director of the production, Ilya Ustyantsev (director, choreographer of the Mariinsky Theatre, laureate of numerous awards and educator): "Thanks to this integration, the performance will become an interweaving of the external view of what is happening and the internal observation of every detail, scene, and emotion. It will allow the audience to feel the atmosphere of the elemental emotions and soar together with the characters to the height of the fate's rock."
World-renowned opera and ballet stars participated in "Carmen." Among them are Agunda Kulaeva, a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company and Honored Artist of Russia; Sergey Skorokhodov, a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre Opera Company; Azer Zade, a Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Alexey Tatarintsev, a soloist of the Moscow Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre and Honored Artist of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, as well as other internationally acclaimed stars.
