At the end of August 2023, a grand celebration of musical art took place in Sochi - the "Rosa Khutor. Classics" festival. It was organized by the Foundation for the Support of Classical Music (F.E.S.) and the charitable foundation of Alexey Aslanov.
The festival is a successor to the 1st Sochi Classical Music Festival, which took place at various venues in Greater Sochi in August 2022 and became iconic for the region. For the first time, the audience was presented with an opera in the mountains at an altitude of 1050 meters.
In 2023, the "Rosa Khutor. Classics" festival won the second grant competition and received support from the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. The festival opened with a two-day performance of a dramatic ballet with elements of a rock show, "Master and Margarita," directed by Sergei Polunin. Each following day, the audience had the opportunity to attend chamber concerts of classical music, which took place in front of the Rosa Khutor town hall in an open-air format. These included a virtuoso concert by Alexandra Lee (violin) and Alexandra Gracheva (piano), a series of concerts dedicated to the 150th anniversary of S.V. Rachmaninoff, "Vespers" performed by the Gamajun consort choir, Rachmaninoff's romance evenings, and a concert by the Sochi Symphony Orchestra conducted by the festival's artistic director, Alexey Aslanov.
The festival's grand finale featured the premiere staging of Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot" on the open-air stage of Layzo Park in Rosa Khutor. The leading roles were performed by soloists from the Mariinsky Theatre with international acclaim. Additionally, on the last day of the festival, the famous composer and conductor from Bahrain, Waheed Alkhan, performed as part of international cultural cooperation between Russia and the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the unanimous support of Their Excellencies the Director of the Culture and Antiquities Authority and the Ambassador of Bahrain.
